A remodel that opens a bearing wall is a framing job before it is a finish job. An addition is not done when it is framed. It is done when the roofline, fascia and siding meet the existing house closely enough that nobody can find the seam. And rot at the roof edge is almost never just fascia: by the time it is visible, the sheathing behind it has usually gone too.

Homeowners search for one of these. Most jobs need two or three. That matters for who you hire, not only for what it costs, because when the structure, the openings and the envelope are three different companies, the seams between them are exactly where responsibility goes to disappear. The window installer points at the framer's opening, the framer points at the siding crew's flashing, and the water stain is still yours.
